Javanese Dancer – Beksan Lawung
80 x 60 x 20cm, Weight: 7kg
Resin fiber sculpture, Granite base
In general, Johan Abe’s works are sculptures of female figures. However, in this exhibition, Johan Abe specially prepared a male sculpture to commemorate the 77th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia. The statue displays a young man practising Beksan Lawung: a classical dance created by Sri Sultan HB I from Keraton Jogja. This dance shows the movements of soldiering, showing the values of both the resistance and heroic spirit. Johan Abe likes the dance moves because they are dynamic but beautiful to enjoy.
